Paint the Town App

High fidelity samples of the Paint the Town App
Background: The Paint the Town Mobile App was developed for a pre-launch app that lets users find out about interesting, little-known events happening in their local cities and town. Users would be able to search for a variety of local events, including but not limited to food, the arts, and musical events.
Problem Statement: The overall goal was to develop a simple signup flow for new users, along with a brief quiz about their personal interests, which impacts the events they are exposed to as they first open the app. I additionally needed to create ways for the user to share (via social media), add, purchase tickets, and explore all aspects of events they have interest in. One other main focus from the client was to give the user as much regulation over the events that would appear in their page as possible, because they felt that other event-based apps didn't allow for this kind of control.
Target Audience: The App was developed to cater to a wide variety of events, that can interest a wide variety of people, therefore we tested with a wide variety of age groups, male and female.
Strategy: An initial user flow and low fidelity wireframe system was created then tested via InVision, for five live user testing sessions. In my sessions I gave a thorough explanation of the App and its main features, while asking each user to describe their journey as they were walking through he app. I encouraged each user to speak their mind and ask questions if needed.
Engagement: FPO
Results: From just my five sessions I gained much insight on the initial user flow, particularly on the structure of the initial quiz, what questions were/weren't being asked of the user(s), and considerations behind elements that were appearing on these pages. I additionally gained beneficial feedback behind how the users events page was structured, which helped towards the redesign of the events gallery as well as the basic event information on these pages.
Through these tests I was then able to restructure the App flow and start to consider the look and design of the pages. This was a ground-up App design where I not only had to develop the user flow but had to create the brand style guide along with the basic design elements, including the App logo (see below).

Branding guide for Paint the Town App
With the branding elements in place, I was able to design roughly 20 mock pages of the App (samples above), which were partnered with the tested user flow, so I could then share with the client for review.
